Great Lakes Information
This
section contains a wealth of diverse information relevant to the Great Lakes region, ranging from general descriptive information to specific and detailed
information. The information within in this section is organized into
several broad categories that correspond to the primary interest groups or
stakeholders within the region. Data and information specific to the domain
expertise of the GLEAMS team (Genomics & Toxicology , Environmental Chemistry ,Outreach & Education and Modeling and Decision Support Systems ) can be found in other
areas of this portal.
The
general structure of this section is as follows:
The Great Lakes
: This
section contains basic summary information and statistics, as well as history,
economics, etc. for each of the Great Lakes and connecting water bodies.
Environment: This section contains
links to historic, modern and real-time (i.e., buoy weather data,
wind , USGS stream guage data, etc.) data as well as articles and
supplemental overviews of environmental issues within the region.
Research: This section contains
links to papers, technical reports and programs focused within the Great Lakes region. Additionally, you will find highlights about upcoming research activity
and associated meetings.
Health: This section provides
information related to recent health issues and risks pertaining to the Great Lakes basin, including summaries, reports, beach closings, etc.
Recreation: This section highlights
tourism and recereation within the Great Lakes region, including biking,
boating, camping, fishing, and hiking Additionally, links to real-time
environmental information (i.e., buoy weather data , wind , wave heights , etc.).
Legislation: This section contains
summaries of and links to legislation relevant to the Great Lakes basin,
including United States and Canadian legislation as well as binational
agreements.
Watershed Agencies,
Programs and Tools: A list of Federal, State, and Non-Federal agencies
or programs relevant to the Great Lakes, as well as links to key regulation and
documentation.
Related Links: An alphabetized list of links associated with the Great Lakes, each annotated with a brief description to provide users with an idea of what
can be found at the target destination.
